Sparta Council elects Blumetti mayor, approves slate of professional service contracts

NJ SPARTA — Sparta Council reorganized for 2026, electing Blumetti mayor and Sylvester deputy mayor. In a 4-1 vote for Blumetti and unanimous vote for Sylvester, Mayor Blumetti called in his inaugural address for an end to partisan conflict and divisiveness. The council unanimously approved fourteen professional services resolutions, estimated at $575,000 in annual costs, including contracts for Township Attorney Anand Dash of Kennedys Law, Municipal Prosecutor Timothy J.

Profeta of Morris, Downing & Sherred, and consulting services for finance, engineering, and affordable housing. The council designated Provident Bank as banking services provider and established a five-minute public comment limit per speaker.
