NJ SPARTA — The Sparta Township Council adopted an amended 2026 municipal budget totaling $32,706,822, a 2.64 percent increase driven largely by healthcare costs, in a 4-1 vote with Deputy Mayor Sylvester voting no and Mayor Blumetti joining Councilmen Clark and Scott and Councilwoman Murphy in support. The Council eliminated $1.8 million in capital improvements and froze community organization funding as part of cost-control measures. The Council also adopted Ordinance 26-12 on a 4-1 vote, reducing maximum building coverage in commercial zones from 175,000 to 75,000 square feet to address traffic congestion, despite the Planning Board finding the ordinance inconsistent with the Master Plan.
The ordinance applies to the Economic Development, PDRM-1, and PDRM-2 zones.
