Planning Board approves detention center prohibition, fair housing ordinance

NJ SPARTA — Sparta Planning Board unanimously clears detention center prohibition and fair housing ordinance for Council review. With all 10 members present, Chairwoman Celeste Luciano's board voted 10-0 on both Ordinance 26-02 and Ordinance 26-03, finding them consistent with the Master Plan and recommending a local police detention exemption. Ordinance 26-03 implements updated state Uniform Housing Affordability Controls and Department of Community Affairs rules for affordable housing set-asides.

A Program Decision and Order by Judge Allen extended the compliance deadline to April 30, 2026, with Council's second reading anticipated March 10.
